Ionising RadiationEstablished to provide a focus for those whose work involves any aspect of ionising radiation, including dosimetry, radiation and neutron metrology.
The Ionising Radiation SIG is for anyone in Radiation Dosimetry, Radioactivity and Neutron Metrology sectors that has an interest in detection, characterisation and measurement. Special Interest Group members include radiotherapy physicists, ionising radiation manufacturers and industry.
Themes of the Ionising Radiation SIG
- Nuclear Decommissioning
- Therapy and Diagnostics
- Industrial Sterilisation
- Nuclear forensics and counter terrorism
- New build
- Metrology for next generation of reactors
- Use of radioactive material in non-nuclear industries (different from radiation protection because these industries may not be aware that they need nuclear protection)
NPL runs the SIG on behalf of the National Measurement Office. To ensure that the activities are relevant, they are overseen by a Steering Group.
Benefits of membership
- Networking with other members and technologists in the field.
- Regular information about relevant forthcoming seminars, conferences and workshops.
