Solid State Lighting Metrology Working Group
New lighting technologies promise to reduce electrical energy consumed by lighting by 75%. The benefits can be realised without sacrificing the quality of the lighting. Metrology will play a crucial role in realising these energy savings, through ensuring user acceptance, by providing the means to measure and test products to traceable standards, and prevent consumer disillusionment with poor quality products.
The Solid State Lighting Metrology Working Group (SSLM WG) has been formed to develop best measurement practice for sold state lighting. The SSLM WG is a body of experts and interested parties from academia, industry and government with the purpose of providing an open arena for discussion in this area to collate and develop recommendations, white papers, etc. for dissemination to the SSLM WG and other stakeholders.
Who we are
The SSLM WG is a knowledge transfer working group under the Engineering and Optical Special Interest Group (SIG) which is part of the Measurement Network. Membership is free and open to all. The Solid State Lighting Steering Board will be the operational group that collates and develops the topics of discussion, documents, whitepapers, etc. which will then be presented to the wider SSLM WG for agreement and consensus. Key stakeholders are the National Physical Laboratory (NPL), Electronics, Sensors, Photonics KTN (ESP KTN), LUX-TSI Ltd and the National Measurement Office (NMO).
| Training videos on laser safety are available free of charge to academic institutions and hospitals. More information |
Benefits of membership
- Networking with other members and technologists in the field.
- Regular information about relevant forthcoming seminars, conferences and workshops.
- A website information portal will be maintained to publish its
activities and stimulate online debate as well as registration
of membership and level of involvement. - Regular meetings targeted at specific agendas concerned with Solid State Lighting Metrology to solicit feedback, discussion and obtain consensus.
- Consultation on documents, certification programmes, whitepapers, and guidance notes, etc.
- Produce new best practice documents/whitepapers on SSL Metrology.
Objectives
- Develop consensus on best practice utilising current and new approaches in SSL metrology.
- Produce guidance documentation for SSLM WG members and other stakeholders.
- Engage with key national and international groups to promote best practice for SSL metrology.
