Film Challenge Engineering & Optical

Reflecting a range of interests from a number of sectors, including advanced manufacturing and engineering, transport and energy.

The Engineering and Optical SIG is for anyone in these sectors that has an interest in industrial dimensional measurement, mass, micro and nano dimensional, humidity and moisture, temperature and optical – materials, sources and detectors

Themes of the Engineering & Optical SIG

  • Temperature and humidity, including harsh environments
  • Freeform
  • Solid State Lighting
  • Surfaces and structured surfaces
  • Impact of redefinition of temperature scale

NPL runs the SIG on behalf of the National Measurement Office. To ensure that the activities are relevant, they are overseen by a Steering Group.

Benefits of membership

  • Networking with other members and technologists in the field.
  • Regular information about relevant forthcoming seminars, conferences and workshops.
  • Free access to on-line services such as presentations from previous seminars, NPL's Good Practice Guides, Case Studies and other publications.
  • Opportunity to influence the measurement research funded by the Government in this sector

Training videos on Laser Safety are available free of charge to academic institutions and hospitals.
