National Physical Laboratory

Committees

We contribute to standards activities undertaken by six organisations.

These are:

  • BSI (the British Standards Institution)
  • CEN (Comité Européen de Normalization)
  • EA (European co-operation for Accreditation)
  • ISO (International Standardization Organization)
  • JCGM (Joint Committee for Guides in metrology)

In the area of Key Comparisons, we lead the work of the BIPM Director’s advisory group on uncertainties, and provide input to various Consultative Committees of the CIPM.

We aim to bring expertise in mathematics and statistics, particularly good practice in uncertainty evaluation and related mathematical and statistical modelling, to benefit relevant metrology standards development and to achieve more consistent application of good practice in the guidance, algorithms and procedures standardised for uncertainty evaluation in different contexts. We also aim to raise awareness throughout the National Measurement System of the progress made in the standards committees.

Information about our work on standards activities is summarised in the following reports:

  • Statistics Standards to Support Metrology
  • International activities during the second SSfM programme, 2001 – 2004
  • Statistics Standards to Support Metrology 2005-06
  • Statistics Standards to Support Metrology 2006-07
