Worldwide metrology at the highest level operates through a well-established network of National Metrology Institutes (NMIs) and Designated Institutes (DIs). As the UK National Metrology Institute, NPL represents the UK both at a technical level and at the highest level of metrology in many international networks, and on a number of international committees, organisations and arrangements, including:

NPL is the UK signatory of the CIPM Mutual Recognition Arrangement (CIPM MRA)

In addition, NPL staff are active participants in a range of international bodies, including European Society for Precision Engineering and Nanotechnology (euspen), International Measurement Confederation (IMEKO), NCSL International and International Congress of Metrology (CIM).

NPL can provide advice and information to industry, regulators, and academia on a range of international metrology issues. We liaise closely with other bodies that share similar issues (BSI, UKAS, Regulatory Delivery) and provide services that benefit industry.

*Information on metrology, standards and accreditation infrastructure in different countries, can be found on the BIPM website.
