Regulatory agencies, local authority monitoring laboratories and the nuclear industry all require accurate, well calibrated instruments in order to monitor environmental dose rates at successively lower levels.

NPL's calibration service is specifically tailored for environmental dose rate monitors used for air kerma measurements at very sensitive levels (i.e. 100x lower than protection levels).

Features

• Calibrations are traceable to UK national standards for secondary standards and commercially available low-level, hand-held area monitors, e.g. Mini Instruments, Reuter-Stokes and proportional counters.
• Calibrations are available by arrangement.
• Gamma radiation from ¹³⁷Cs sources is used at a range of air kerma rates from 50 nGy/hr to 200 nGy/hr.
