National Physical Laboratory

Metrology for sustainable hydrogen energy applications workshop

Date:
07 November 2018 - 08 November 2018
Description:

This workshop and training session address the standardisation needs in the hydrogen energy sector, and are aimed at those working or interested in:

  • Contaminants from hydrogen production (steam methane reforming, PEM water electrolysis, chlor alkali membrane electrolysis)
  • Analysis of hydrogen quality according to SIO 14687 and ISO 19880-8
  • Contaminant risk assessment for the marketed and future generation of fuel cells and the measurement methods for hydrogen mass in storage tanks

Visits to the Hydrogen Refuelling Station and laboratories are also planned.

Training session – 7 November pm:

This session will lead to practical information from the scientific activities of the project and actual results to supplement standards on their elaboration or revision path. What perspective towards a broad and easy use of hydrogen emphasising end-user expectation?

Workshop session – 8 November all day:

This workshop will tackle, among others, the hydrogen vehicle market, the challenges of hydrogen production, the hydrogen impurity analytical methods, the impurity risk assessment for the marketed and future generation of fuel cells and the measurement methods for hydrogen mass in storage tanks. Cross-cutting themes for hydrogen as the standardization role, sampling, transport and security/safety will be addressed.
