Workshop: Discussing the measurement challenges in electric and hybrid vehicles and aircraft

04 September 2018

Join us at our free workshop which will bring together keynote speakers from the automotive and aerospace sectors to share, explore and identify the opportunities for measurement to help accelerate developments and adoption of electrical powertrain technologies for electric and hybrid vehicles and aircraft.

As part of our support for electric and hybrid vehicles, NPL is developing a funding strategy to address measurement challenges within this field. The strategy will be published in a report available to all stakeholders who attend the workshop.

Topics of discussion:

  • Electrical machines
  • Power electronics and drives
  • Power distribution
  • Magnetic, electronic and thermal materials

Please note: Energy storage will not be covered in this workshop

NPL is dedicated to work with UK industry on current and future measurement needs and their solutions, including:

  • Verification of new products, components and materials intended to operate under extremely demanding life cycles
  • Accurate characterisation of material properties under a wide range of conditions to improve modelling, design and material selection
  • Innovation in the use of sensors and data both for prototyping and in-service health monitoring and management.

Measurement science is crucial to all stages of product development and manufacturing. Applications range from understanding material performance under harsh conditions to helping an SME work with an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) to verify an innovative product and gain entry to the supply chain.

Invitation to contribute to the discussion:

NPL will produce a public report based on the outcome of this consultation, with first sight and the opportunity to comment on the draft report offered to those who take part. This report will form the basis for strategic decisions on future projects and funding.
