Instrument Calibration & Testing
NPL offers a range of validation and calibration services which support atmospheric science, emissions monitoring and measurements for security.
Validation and calibration services include:
- Multi-parameter Measurements of Aerosol Properties for Climate Models
- Analysis by GC-MS
- Validation facilities for remote sensing and open-path optical instruments NPL is able to calibrate optical open-path instruments using specially developed facilities. Instruments that can be calibrated include: DOAS (Differential Optical Absorption Spectroscopy), FTIR (Fourier Transform Infrared) and DIAL (Differential Absorption Lidar)
- Gas analyser calibrations
- Instrument type approval to the Environment Agency's MCERTS certification scheme.
- Metals
- On site calibration of gas monitors
- Ozone photometer calibrations
- Particle Composition – Organic and Elemental Carbon
- Particulate, Metal, Anion and PAH Analysis
- Stack emissions monitoring
- Stack Proficiency Testing Scheme for stack emissions monitoring
- Validation of stack emissions monitoring instrumentation using facilities developed at NPL, including a stack simulator
- Testing of pumped and diffusive samplers using our Controlled Atmosphere Test Facility
- Testing of continuous emissions monitors
- High accuracy and traceable measurements to provide calibration and validation for atmospheric research projects
- Validation and calibration of novel sensors for homeland security applications
- Provision of quality assurance and quality control services for customer's monitoring programmes
