CAI digital TV aerial benchmark testing

Outdoor Ground Plane 

The Confederation of Aerial Industries (CAI) has been set up by representatives of UK television aerial manufacturers to govern a voluntary benchmark scheme which aims to standardise the performance of commercial digital TV aerials.

NPL performs the benchmark testing on the (60 m by 30 m) ground plane.

The benchmark procedure consists of 5 tests:

  • forward gain
  • polar pattern
  • cross polar
  • return loss
  • feeder pickup

By request we offer a site hire facility, which allows manufacturers to develop their aerials prior to the formal benchmark test. This service is charged at a daily rate.
