Mira Naftaly gives keynote speech on terahertz spectroscopy

Mira Naftaly gave an invited keynote talk on an international intercomparison of terahertz (THz) time-domain spectrometers at the 41st International Conference on Infrared Millimeter & Terahertz Waves (IRMMW-THz 2016) in Copenhagen.

25-30 Sep 2016 : IRMMW-THZ 2016

Mira presented the results of an intercomparison conducted by NPL over the past year, which involved 18 institutions from nine countries, including academic research labs, THz systems manufacturers and National Measurement Institutes. Standard samples were sent to participating labs for measurement using THz spectrometers, to verify the reproducibility of measurements between labs and to produce consensus values of THz optical constants of commonly-used materials.

Mira's talk attracted a large audience and was received with a great deal of interest and positive comments, which is testament to the growing awareness of metrology issues in the THz community. The conference chair, Prof Peter Uhd Jepsen of the Technical University of Denmark, thanked Mira for the presentation and referred to it as "the central talk of the conference."

The conference, first held in 1974, is the oldest and largest continuous forum specifically devoted to the field of infrared, millimetre-wave and terahertz devices, measurements and applications.
