Dr Julian Hunt

Born October 24th 1940; educated at King Edward VI Grammar School, Lichfield and Queen Mary College, University of London; BSc Special Honours Physics 1963 and PhD in Nuclear Physics 1966-67.

Julian worked for the UKAEA at AEA Harwell from 1959 to 1966 before joining the Neutron Physics Group at NPL in October 1966. He undertook collaborative work with the National Institute of Science and Technology (NIST), Gaithersburg and the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB), Braunschweig until 1988 when he was appointed Head of Radiation Dosimetry, becoming Head of Radiation Science in 1995.

He then joined the NPL Executive and was responsible for ensuring NPL's interests were taken into account when the new building was being constructed and overseeing the moving of staff and equipment into the new laboratory until his retirement in January 2005.

Following the departure of John Rae, Julian was Interim Managing Director from 1st November 1999 to 16th March 2000 when Dr Bob McGuiness took up his post.
