Dr John Vernon Dunworth
Born February 24th 1917; nuclear physicist; educated at Manchester Grammar School and Clare College, Cambridge; Twisden studentship and fellowship Trinity College, Cambridge 1941; during the 1939-1945 war assisted the Ministry of Supply in radar development; National Research Council, Canada, working on atomic energy 1944-1945; demonstrator in physics at Cambridge 1945-1947; joined the Atomic Energy Research Establishment at Harwell.
He was Director of NPL from 1964-1976 and was awarded the CB and CBE.
