Dr Bob McGuiness
Born December 31st 1951; educated at St Mirin's Academy, Paisley and University of Glasgow; BSc Honours chemistry 1973 and PhD polymer chemistry 1976-77.
He worked for the ICI plc group for 24 years, beginning in 1976, in various roles ranging from research scientist, business manager to chief executive. He had postings in Slough, Berkshire, UK; Hilden, Germany, Europe; and Cleveland, Ohio, USA. During his time at ICI, McGuiness motivated and led staff and management teams in the UK, Germany and the USA to improve business performance. He also built businesses and managed successful relations across diverse sectors including auto manufacturers, insurance companies, rail, aircraft, steel and aluminium industries.
He was Managing Director of NPL from 2000 to 2005, leaving to become CEO of Serco Science.
