System for Periodic Testing of Sound Level Meters
Simply use the links to learn more about each product area.
Sound Level Meters (SLM) generally require a calibration every 1 to 2 years, and the periodic testing procedure differs depending on the standard to which the SLM was originally manufactured, with the BS EN 61672 series of standards slowly taking over.
NPL can supply a semi-automated system comprising industry standard hardware and custom PC software for performing calibration of sound level meters according to the procedures described in BS EN 61672 3:2006. The system will calibrate any model of sound level meter that conforms to BS EN 61672 1:2003. Where a particular test cannot be automated (e.g. it requires a visual inspection) the user is prompted to perform the observation themselves. All results are saved to a database and can be output to a formatted spreadsheet at any time.
Where a SLM was originally manufactured to IEC 60651 (BS EN 60651) and/or IEC 60804 (BS EN 60804) the relevant standard for periodic testing in the UK is BS 7580 Part 1: 1997. NPL can also supply a system for testing to this standard.
