Primary Pressure Calibration

The current state of the art method of microphone pressure calibration is the reciprocity technique, in which NPL has played a key development role. NPL’s reciprocity system achieves world-leading levels of uncertainty and offers unrivalled flexibility and functionality.

The complete automated measurement system comprises industry standard hardware and custom PC software for performing pressure reciprocity calibrations and front volume measurements of LS1, WS1, LS2, and WS2 microphones according to IEC 61094-2:2009. The operation of the system is highly customisable, allowing the user flexibility in calibration procedure and enabling it to be used for experimentation. Complete data of every measurement is stored in a database and can later be reprocessed using different settings or output to formatted spreadsheets or text files. Powerful software tools are also provided to enable every part of the calibration process to be isolated and examined in detail.
