Five decades since the UK became the third space-faring nation with the launch of satellite Ariel 1, the industry now contributes £9.1bn per year to the UK economy and employs 29,000 people. The last few years particularly have seen considerable activity in the UK space scene, from the establishment of the Space Leadership Council and UK Space Agency, to the launch of the brand new Satellite Applications Catapult.
