Functional materials research into functional thin film materials and non-linear properties of piezoelectric materials in harsh environments

NPL has developed new measurement systems and characterisation methodologies to fully characterise the non-linear properties of piezoelectric materials utilised under extreme conditions. Systems that measure the blocking force of actuators are available for the assessment of piezo (and other) actuators.

Additionally, the assessment of the dielectric and piezoelectric properties of piezo ceramics at low to elevated temperatures (-20 °C to +600 °C) and under conditions of high humidity is made possible through NPL’s dedicated test systems.
