Measurement of the acoustic output of medical ultrasound equipment
Service AW0801 covers measurements of the acoustic output of ultrasonic devices against the following standards: IEC 61157, IEC 60601-2-5, IEC 61689 and IEC 60601-2-37 ISO EN45502-1 Clause 22.1 AIUM/NEMA UD-2 AIUM/NEMA UD-3 FDA 510(k), FDA 1050.10
NPL has a unique range of hydrophones for use in beam-plotting tanks, and the multi-element hydrophone-based Ultrasound Beam Calibrator. The available measurement technology covers the frequency range 500 kHz to 50 MHz, with positional resolution of 2.5 microns.
This covers measurements of the acoustic output of ultrasonic devices against the following standards: IEC 61157, IEC 60601-2-5, IEC 61689 and IEC 60601-2-37 ISO EN45502-1 Clause 22.1 AIUM/NEMA UD-2 AIUM/NEMA UD-3 FDA 510(k), FDA 1050.10
Experimental investigations can also be carried out to examine the field distribution of pre-market devices, from medical and industrial applications, providing the user with valuable information on beam patterns produced by prototype transducers.
Ultrasonic power measurements using radiation force balances can be carried out in the ranges 1 mW to 20 W, 1 MHz to 20 MHz, spanning the temperature range 15 ºC to 40 ºC.
NPL can also calibrate Standard Ultrasound Sources, such as those produced by Precision Acoustics (www.acoustics.co.uk/products/checksource-mhz-cw), NIST and NTR, against the Primary and Secondary Standard Radiation Force Balances.
