Training in Acoustical Metrology and Audiometric Calibration Techniques

Audiometric training

NPL offers a number of training modules that can be mixed-and-matched to create a complete training package meeting individual training objectives. Following an initial discussion with the client prior to the training taking place, the modules are usually adapted to suit a range of technical abilities and prior knowledge, enabling a truely bespoke training package to be created.

The available modules include:

  • Primary pressure calibration of laboratory standard microphones
  • Secondary pressure calibration of working standard microphones
  • Secondary free-field calibration of working standard microphones
  • Electrostatic actuators
  • Calibration and verification of sound calibrators and pistonphones
  • Verification of sound level meters and related IEC Standards
  • Calibration of audiometers
  • Calibration of artificial ears
  • Calibration of mechanical couplers (artificial mastoids)
  • Application of laboratory quality schemes and requirements of ISO/IEC 17025
  • Measurement uncertainty

NPL will also consider providing tailored training on other topics to meet specific alternative requirements, where we have the necessary expertise.

Each module is designed to last a half-day. Since they usually include some practical aspects in the laboratory, they are suitable for up to three people at a time.
