International
As the UK National Metrology Institute, NPL is involved in many international networks and represents the UK internationally both at a technical level and at the highest level of metrology.
NPL represents the UK on a number of international committees, organisations and arrangements, including:
- International Committee of Weights and Measures (CIPM)
- CIPM Mutual Recognition Arrangement (CIPM MRA)
- EURAMET

NPL engages in many international collaborative activities, including:
- European Metrology Research Programme (EMRP)
- CIPM Mutual Recognition Arrangement (CIPM MRA)
- Versailles Project on Advanced Materials and Standards (VAMAS)
- Secondment activities to and from other NMIs are encouraged
NPL maintains a database of key metrology facts for a number of countries worldwide and compare various statistics between the country and the UK.
NPL's International Office offers a point of contact for advice and information on international metrology issues. We liaise closely with other bodies that share similar issues (BSI, NWML, UKAS) and provide services that benefit UK industry.
NPL can provide advice to industry, regulators, academia from the UK and beyond on a range of issues including the international acceptance of calibration certificates, use of the BIPM Key Comparison Database.
