Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) Awards 2012
Research and Development Sector - Sector Award Winner
For the fifth year running NPL has been a finalist in the RoSPA Research and Development Sector Awards. This continued level of recognition demonstrates NPL's commitment to the continual improvement of health and safety.
Through positive support from management, well-trained staff and efficient systems, we maintain a high level of Health and Safety performance on site.

MTA Manufacturing Industry Awards 2012

Best Training Scheme award
NPL received the Best Training Scheme award in recognition of the measurement training programme it has developed. Companies to benefit from the training programme include Rolls-Royce, Airbus and Hexagon Metrology, and more than 650 learners completed NPL Training.
The purpose of the MTA Manufacturing Industry Awards is to highlight key successes in the engineering based manufacturing sector and celebrate achievement and innovation.
Go Green Richmond Upon Thames - Advanced Award

The London Borough of Richmond upon Thames has awarded NPL a Go Green Richmond upon Thames Advanced Award.
Go Green Richmond upon Thames recognises good practice through a tiered accreditation scheme.
NPL undertook a specialist review on energy, waste, water, travel and procurement to reduce the significant impacts of our business. NPL implemented the recommendations and reduced the impacts across two areas to achieve the award.
NPL receives not one, but two ticks!

Jobcentre Plus has approved NPL to be a user of the Two Ticks Disability Symbol
This means that NPL is committed to employing disabled people and will:
- Interview all applicants with a disability who meet the minimum criteria for a job vacancy and consider them on their abilities
- Ensure there is a mechanism in place to discuss, at any time, but at least once a year, with disabled employees what can be done to make sure they can develop and use their abilities
- Make every effort when employees become disabled to make sure they stay in employment
- Take action to ensure that all employees develop the appropriate level of disability awareness needed to make these commitments work
- Each year, review these commitments and what has been achieved and let employees and Jobcentre Plus know about progress and future plans
Institute for Education Business Excellence (IEBE) Business Awards 2010
Excellence in Work Experience Award (large company category)
The IEBE leads the way in providing links between the worlds of business and education to offer young people a rewarding and realistic introduction to the world of work. The awards celebrate the significant impact businesses have on young people's learning and achievement.
NPL won this award because of our innovative approach to work placement, specifically with respect to the NPL Academy.
Institute of Physics (IOP) Best Practice in Professional Development Award 2009.
The IOP award gives public recognition to large organisations that visibly demonstrate best practice in the training of physicists through the effective use of their training resources.
This award cited the excellent work that NPL has done particularly in our mentoring scheme, outreach activities, secondment and scientific recognition schemes.
The award recognises NPL's commitment to continuing professional development and to engaging, inspiring and supporting all staff to achieve their full potential.
'Big Tick' in the 2008 Business in the Community awards.
Business in the Community's Awards for Excellence are the UK's leading award scheme for responsible business.

Supported by industry, and leading scientific and technical institutions, the SET Awards are the world's most important awards for science and technology undergraduates.
They are multidisciplinary to reflect the wide range of degrees our universities have to offer, and NPL sponsors the prize for Best Physics Student.
IET Innovation Awards - Measurement in Action
NPL sponsors the Measurement in Action category of the Institution of Engineering & Technology (IET) Innovation Awards.
The IET Innovation Awards celebrate the products, technologies and processes that lead the way in engineering innovation, and the NPL sponsored prize is a great opportunity for businesses to demonstrate the positive impact that accurate measurement can have.
Previous winners for this category include the University of Manchester and Pipeline Engineering for new acoustic techniques for monitoring gas filled subsea pipelines (2010), and Stingray Geophysical for their Fibre-Optic Permanent Reservoir monitoring system (2009).
British Physics Olympiad

NPL sponsors prizes in theoretical and experimental physics at the British Physics Olympiad, which has run for over 25 years and is entered annually by around 1,000 talented students from schools across the country.
The competition aims to challenge and reward the best physicists in British schools and to select the UK team to enter the international competition.
Richmond Business Awards

NPL sponsors the Best Business for Innovation and Technology award at the Richmond Business Awards.
The award looks to recognise local businesses that have implemented an innovative idea or made use of an interesting application of technology.
